Yuletide Letter

Hello, Yuletide writer! Thank you for writing for me!
I've erred on the side of giving more prompts than less, and I hope it's not too much. Feel free to take bits and pieces from any of them, or come up with something different. I like a lot of different things! They are just there to give you jumping-off points.
General likes:
- For the most part, the thing I love about these canons is the characters and their relationship to each other. Be it romantic, platonic, positive, negative- exploring the way characters interact is one of my favorite things.
- I am also happy with plot-focused fic!
- I love me a good trope. Huddling for warmth, undercover married (especially when there's serious danger if they're caught), sex pollen, aliens made them do it... and while I like these as romantic tropes, they don't have to be! Having to huddle for warmth with an enemy or awkward interactions with your crewmates the aftermath of a ship-wide sex pollen incident is also interesting to me.
- Human/nonhuman relationships (you may notice there's one in each request). I love exploring how you might navigate a relationship where you're not the same species, or one of you doesn't have a body, etc etc. (That includes, but is in no way limited to! sex- please feel free to get real weird with it, if you wanna.)
- Canon divergent AUs (eg, what if Hilbert or Maxwell had survived, what if Michael Waters had succeeded in the ritual, etc)
Do Not Wants:
- nominated character death (except the canonically dead ones)
- rape/noncon (though I am totally cool with dubcon or just general skeeviness for some ships)
- AUs that change the canon setting (eg, werewolf soulmate AU where they work in a coffee shop)
- non-canon trans headcanons
- non-humans getting human/oid bodies
- ageplay
Archive 81 - Nicholas Waters, Christine Anderson, Static Man
Podcast | Transcripts
First off, you do not need to include all three characters (although you can!). I'm happy with any combo or any single character.
I love Archive 81 for just how dang *weird* it is. It seems to get weirder every season; it's great. The weirdness of The City, more bizarre and freaky rituals, surreal otherworldly liminal spaces, the sense of trying to understand and control something that cannot be fully understood or controlled... I love all of that. I also love how gross and disturbing it often is, so feel free to get just as dark and unsettling as the podcast does. (because this is a frequent DNW, I'll explicitly note animal harm is fine. If Christine needs to sacrifice three bunnies on an oak stump to cure her sore throat, that's fine by me.)
A few ideas:
- How's Christine doing back on the ship? How is she adjusting to living with people who knew her for years, but that she doesn't remember? (I'm not particularly interested in a story entirely focused on her romantic relationship with Lou, though of course that can be part of it.)
- Maybe Nicholas comes to visit somehow?
- All through the season, I was nervous about how chummy they were getting with Static Man. Calling so casually on dangerous beings usually backfires, so I was waiting for something awful to happen (especially during the ritual they did together!) But nope, Static Man really just is a guy who likes fried chicken and really wants a friend. :[ (and also does a lot of murder.) That said, if there were some unintended consequences of Static Man becoming Nicholas and Christine's on-call deus ex machina, that might be cool to explore.
- Alternately, Static Man kept saying stuff like "I'll owe you forever" and similar broad promises to Nicholas, which also seems like a bad idea when dealing with magic.
- Of course, Nicholas and Christine were both invested in helping Static Man find a body, and Nicholas explicitly said that was what he was going to do when he got back to New York. I'd love to see that adventure, or part of it. I did request not giving non-humans a human body, but given the nature of magic in this universe, I expect even if they succeed there will be terrible, terrible costs. And I love me some terrible costs. (or he could end up with a nonhuman body.)
- Or, you know. Nicholas and Static Man could just chill and watch Over the Garden Wall, you don't have to do horrible things to them.
- I definitely started shipping Nicholas/Static Man after their Payphone adventure, so feel free to work that in anywhere. I imagine it would be a bit awkward, given that Static Man is kind of bro-y (and also looks like he's made of static and possibly human teeth; I'm pretty sure he doesn't have genitals) and Nicholas is... Nicholas. But I'm into that. You can go a lot of ways with it- it could be kind of sweet, or it could get a little darker, given that Nicholas controls when Static Man can... exist.
- Speaking of which, Nicholas got kinda scary intense at the end of that last episode, huh? Please feel free to lean into that, if you want.
- he is not in the tag set, so absolutely NO pressure, but- I miss Rat. If you also miss that creepy weirdo, feel free to throw in a cameo. Again, only if you want to, though!
- If you wanted to mess around with the format- epistolary to mimic the tapes, or some other weirdness, this seems like a good canon for it!

Podcast | Transcripts | Vignettes (did you know there were some short stories on the tumblr? I didn't know until recently! They are good, you should read them.)
Ugh, I love this whole dorky crew so much. Again, I'm happy with any combo of characters! General aspects I particularly like are any exploration of Dwarnian culture (or other aliens?), stuff about the swarm, and Brian being a big ol' linguistics nerd. Really, any kind of nerdery of the "let's figure out how this thing works" kind is great. Also, I do not have a particular image for what Dwarnians look like (aside from purple) so do what you like there.
Prompts:
- I loooove Brian/Krejjh, they are so cute I just wanna squish 'em. <3 Anything focused on them would be great. There's a vignette that describes their first meeting (part 1, part 2), but I'd love to see how they get together, their first kiss, their first time, when and why they decided to get engaged, when and why they joined the crew of the Rumor...any/all of it.
- Arkady/Violet is also great. Whether they actually get together, or just continue to flirt awkwardly at each other, it's all good.
- I love Arkady's devotion to Sana, and I'd love a story that explores that or their shared past. (I also wouldn't be opposed to pre-series Arkady/Sana, or Arkady > Sana)
- alternately, general space shenanigans!
- anyone's backstory!
- space squid?

Okay, fair warning. This is much longer than the others, and I want to assure you that it's not because I'm more excited about it than the others! There are just a lot more characters, and also I've written for it so I've spent a lot of time thinking about it and getting various plotbunnies. But I am excited about all these fandoms, so do not sweat it if you didn't match on this one.
Again, I'm cool with any combination of characters, though for this one I'm much more interested in at least two than a focus on a single character. ETA: also, even if I don't have a specific prompt for it, feel free to take any combination of characters to feature. Each of these characters has an interesting relationship with every other character, so if have an idea about, idk, Kepler and Eiffel, or Lovelace and Hera, or whatever-- go for it, even if I didn't specifically bring it up. (Hilbert is not in the tag set, so he's not mentioned, but feel free to include him or not as you prefer.)
a second ETA: a DNW that just occurred to me: please no relapses for Eiffel. (When it comes to alcohol, anyway, if the guy wants a cigarette when he's back on Earth, that's cool.)
Ships:
Hera/Doug: gah, they are so cuuute. Every time he calls her "darling" my heart melts. Again, I would like to squish them together, but I can't because Hera doesn't have a body, damnit. It's hard to know what a relationship between them would look like, or how they'd define it and I'd love something exploring that in whatever fashion, during or post-canon. Of course, I'm afraid I'm going to make it harder on you by saying please don't give her a humanoid body- or even a human *sized* one, given that she says she needs something the size of a house to hold her. But getting her some kind of fancy new chassis is cool! She also seems to have a mental human construct to represent herself, also fine to use that (assuming they're in some kind of computer/mindspace.)
Kepler/Jacobi: I love this terrible, terrible mess of a pairing. It just hits me right in the id: the loyal henchman who devotes himself to his boss for years, only to have his heart broken and defect. The boss who takes his loyal henchman for granted until it is Too Late. I love it. Obviously, this is not a fluffy pairing- honestly, the best thing Kepler ever did for Jacobi was walk away from him. I go back and forth about just how terrible Kepler generally is, but I think it's pretty safe to say that he treated Jacobi badly. I do love me a manipulative Kepler who intentionally encourages Jacobi's feelings to make him more loyal, giving him juuuuust enough positive feedback to keep him on the hook. I also like a Kepler who thinks he's doing that but actually has Feelings and doesn't know what to do about them, because he's awful. Sex-wise, I tend to see Jacobi as something of a subby masochist (I mean, you'd have to be a masochist to put up with Kepler for five years *rimshot*) and Kepler as, uh, not a terribly considerate sexual partner. (Which I guess sort of works out for both of them.) I'm definitely cool with riding the edge of dubcon on this one- I don't think Jacobi actually ever *would* say no to Kepler, but I'm fine with Kepler not bothering to ask. (I also do not think Kepler cares about safewords. Or aftercare.)
I'm also fond of Jacobi just pining and nothing ever actually happening between them. I'm very into how desperate he is to know Kepler cares about him (He got sad when he thought Kepler forgot their friendiversary!) and how Kepler... is not very good at that (like, the subtext of One of Them was "tell me that your team, that I, that Maxwell are more important to you than the mission" and Kepler's response was basically "nope" because he doesn't realize that's what Jacobi is asking.)
Minkowski/Lovelace: I am into this in theory, but I haven't gotten over the hump of "Minkowski is married and Lovelace wants to get away from everyone and have a longidentity crisis vacation as soon as they get back to earth." But if you can, go for it! I do request no poly with Mr. Koudelka. I... do not particularly care about Mr. Koudelka. I mean, don't make him an asshole, but beyond that, eh.
Other prompts:
- I'm of two minds about Doug's amnesia. On the one hand, it ties into the whole identity theme they've got going, it's a nice mirror with Lovelace, and it's a moving sacrifice. On the other hand, he loses all the growth he had as a person and his memories of the crew. Plus... I feel weird about it with regards to the accident. It kind of both gives him a clean slate but also prevents him from ever making meaningful amends, and I'm way more interested in the struggle of someone who did something terrible trying to live with that than the starting fresh as though it was a different person.
uh. TL;DR, deal with the amnesia however you want- keep it or work through it or have him regain some but nor all memories or handwave it entirely. Though if you do keep the amnesia, I guess just remember Doug is still a capable (well.. as capable as Eiffel ever gets) adult- he doesn't remember his own life, but he seems pretty functional otherwise. I'd like his relationship with the others to be friendship, not them as some sort of guardians.
- How's the trip home?
- What the heck do they do with Dr. Pryce?
- So, they're at least gonna do something about the fact that Goddard has a bunch of Decima ready to be released on the whole world, right?
- or any other corporate espionage shenanigans re: taking down Goddard.
-anything exploring what it means that Lovelace is an alien (like... she can't die- is she immortal now?)
- It is my personal belief that Jacobi is going to attach pretty firmly (if reluctantly) to Minkowski. He is (imo) a henchman at heart. He likes being the person who gets told what to do, and does a good job doing it, not the person in charge. And Minkowski has the fundamental thing that Jacobi needs in a leader that Kepler didn't have: a deep sense of loyalty and responsibility for her crew (even if the crewmate is kind of scummy, like Hilbert.) On the other hand, Minkowski did shoot his BFF. So there's a lot to work through there.
- Maybe something about Doug figuring out how to have a relationship with Ann and working past his own guilt? Though, if you do include Ann, just something to keep in mind- ASL may not be her primary method of communication. She may not be fluent, she may not know any. She can almost certainly speak (especially if she had started talking before the accident) and she might have a cochlear implant to restore some amount of hearing, so she might be able to manage with that + lipreading. Whatever method she uses is something Kate would have made a conscious choice about. (There's... a lot of controversy about deaf children and what languages they should learn, whether they should go to school with other deaf kids or mainstream schools, whether they engage with the Deaf community... I swear I'm not asking you to do tons of research or anything, or have it be a huge part of the story; I wouldn't even want that. It's just something to be aware of.)
- An exception to my no-setting change AUs request: A role-reversal AU with Communication Officer Hera and AI Doug (the world's laziest AI) would be fun.
- Something exploring Maxwell & Hera's relationship, or maybe a Maxwell lives AU? (Which could get interesting, given that while I think Jacobi would be even more willing to follow Minkowski in a world where she didn't kill his BFF, but I'm not sure Maxwell would be as on board...)
- I'm so curious about what was going on in Kepler's head those last few weeks- one, he must have been miserable, suddenly being the least powerful person not being brainwashed (and also possibly dealing with Jacobi-induced Feelings while seeing a brainwashed Jacobi every day). Also, still missing an arm for a decent portion of it. What did he decide about his loyalties, and when? (Also, as an aside, I love that Kepler died because he couldn't help giving a villain monologue even though he was doing something good. It's so very Kepler.)
- relatedly, a Kepler lives AU would also be interesting- he kind of made a heel-face turn at the end there, but where would he have gone from there? Would he have tried to be a slightly less awful person? (I feel like he would not be very good at it.) Or just less awful to Jacobi? (I am also dubious.)
- I am also down for pre-canon Jacobi-Kepler or Jacobi-Maxwell or Jacobi-Maxwell-Kepler missions. (or heck, Kepler-Maxwell!). Jacobi and Maxwell's friendship is great, and their interactions with Kepler in Happy Holidays were hilarious. I'd love to see them get in and out of various scrapes.
I've erred on the side of giving more prompts than less, and I hope it's not too much. Feel free to take bits and pieces from any of them, or come up with something different. I like a lot of different things! They are just there to give you jumping-off points.
